Master Sam Chaar is a PhD/ABD in Recreation and Park Management at Penn State University. He is a 7th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a Korean martial art; a 3rd degree black belt in the Japanese art of Kiokushin Karate; a 3rd degree black belt in the art of Aiki- Jujitsu; and a black belt in the art of Kung Fu. Chaar was a member of the 1988 Olympic Team in Seoul, Korea; competed in the 1990 U.S Nationals; the 1994 World Karate Champion Gold Medallist; 2003 US National Silver Medalist; conducted into the North American Federation of Martial Arts Hall of Fame in May 2006.

Master Chaar is still competing and among his achievements he won a Silver Medal at the 2007 US Open, where representatives from 59 countries competed. In addition, he is the head instructor of the Penn State TKD club.

Master Chaar has taught elementary and high school students through Upward Bound programs and school districts. He has developed programs for children with discipline problems and held numerous martial arts seminars for men and women of all levels of experience.

Master Chaar's instructors are certified and experienced black belts who trained under him personally. They have taught martial arts classes for all ages and levels.

Paul Mittan is an Assistant Instructor at Chaar TKD. He is a senior at Penn State University majoring in Electrical Engineering and has been active in martial arts since 1991. Paul is a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has been training with Master Chaar since 2002.

Paul has been actively competing in numerous tournaments since training under Master Chaar and was a Gold and Bronze medalist in the 2003 Pennsylvania State Championships. Paul was also a medalist in the 2004 Pennsylvania State Championships.
